Shamus O’Meara has authored School Security Design: Planning to Mitigate Risk and Avoid Liability in this winter’s edition of the American Bar Association Construction Lawyer journal.  The security of school buildings has become a predominant safety topic in school communities following the school shooting tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.  The article discusses federal guidance and practical recommendation for schools and public entities as they consider security issues as part of their new construction and remodeling projects.  Shamus also covers legal implications and potential liability considerations involving the challenges facing educational institutions on this important issue.
