O’Meara Leer Wagner & Kohl Leads Effort to Ensure Promised Benefits for People With Disabilities and Their Families

O’Meara Leer Wagner & Kohl is proud to be leading efforts to ensure that millions of dollars in legislatively promised benefits are provided to people with disabilities to help them live and work in their own homes and communities close to loved ones and friends. Managing Shareholder and lead counsel for several families, Shamus O’Meara, noted that according to the State’s public reports, since 1995 at least $1.1 billion in benefits appropriated by the Minnesota Legislature under the Home and Community Based Waiver Services program was not provided to eligible individuals with disabilities. These benefits are designed to help people with disabilities remain in their own and communities, away from institutions and isolation, and to help them participate in productive jobs and lead meaningful lives. A February 15, 2015, Minneapolis StarTribune article highlights this important issue.
