MN Court of Appeals Allows Housing Court to Award Damages

The Minnesota Court of Appeals recently upheld the right of a Minnesota Housing Court to award monetary damages to an evicted tenant.   In Yolanda Bass vs. Equity Residential Holdings, LLC, the Hennepin County District Court ruled that a tenant evicted in bad faith is entitled to both treble damages and punitive damages.  The Court of Appeals affirmed the lower Court’s determination that Equity Residential Holdings acted in bad faith when evicting Yolanda Bass and was required to award $9,386.97 in treble damages and $1,000 in punitive damages plus interest, attorney fees and costs.  Read more here.
